Mission as a World-wide Church
The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is to make disciples of all people. This requires the church enabling and equipping the members to fulfill the great gospel commission.
Our Method
Guided by the Bible and the Holy Spirit, Seventh-day Adventists pursue this mission through the work of the elders who provide assistance to the pastor(s) with the overall church mission of making new disciples. However, an equally important work for the elders is assisting the church pastors in caring for (shepherding) those disciples who are already members of the church.
Our Vision
During the period of the early Christian church, the Bible declares elders were "ordained in every city/church" Titus 1:5-9, Acts 14:23. The vision of those early church leaders is the same as today: assist in preparing a people to be able to stand in that great day of Lord's coming.
Identity and Implementation of Our Mission
The main duties of the elder and the reasons for their ordination beginning in early church history are to be spiritual leaders and guardians of the local Church of God. Elders, therefore, are required to fulfill the requirements set forth in scripture, namely: I Timothy 3:1-7. As spiritual guardians, elders assist the pastors in ensuring church/biblical doctrines are upheld, knowing the enemy is as roaring lion seeking whom he may devour as he often wears sheep's clothing.
Implementation of Our Mission
Elders implement the church's mission by leading/participating in: church worship, the weekly prayer meeting services, communion service, church/mission planning; church evangelism; teaching/preaching the Word; by calling/visiting sick/shut-in members, and by supporting the missions of every church auxiliary.
